Does eating enjoyment change with dysphagia?

Eating can be be painful, scary and difficult for many with dysphagia. Many choose to eat alone and what once was a joy can easily turn into a burden, not only for the person with dysphagia but also the caregiver.

Savorease is founded on the importance of social, shareable foods even when dealing with difficulty eating so that your patient can maintain a positive relationship with their food and improve quality of life.

Savorease was designed to improve eating enjoyment, nutrition, and texture compliance for people with dysphagia.

Our crackers and crispy melts are the first evidence based snack food made specifically for dysphagia. They fall under the IDDSI
(International Dysphagia Diet Standardization Initiative) category of Transitional Foods.

Transitional foods is an IDDSI  classified texture of food. They are also known as solid meltable foods because they dissolve in the presence of moisture or heat. No chewing is required -just simple tongue pressure.

All Transitional Foods Must Pass an IDDSI Fork Pressure Test (see diagram).2

Savorease crackers and crispy melts transition from a regular crispy food to puree with moderate tongue pressure alone and in seconds1. The transition is faster and more consistent in the mouth than other products tested. We suggest that you trial Savorease finger foods to determine if they fit your patient's modified texture diet.
Savorease fills the need for more choices in IDDSI level 6, 5 and 4, and are considered therapeutic foods.

Why Finger Foods?

Research shows that people eat more when they can directly touch food with their hands.1 Not only do children and adults eat more with finger foods compared to puree, but self feeding can help prepare for a more effective swallow. 2, 3

Now add dip to the equation, and you can further increase eating enjoyment possibly due to the extra choice of dipping your food or the contrasting colors, flavors and textures.4 Our fortified dips have been tested to be a true puree and complement the flavors of the crisps.
