Dysphagia

Medically tailored transitional foods are specially designed to assist in the management of dysphagia. Introduce as a daily exercise to support diet progression.

Crispy Melts & Dysphagia

Crispy Melts helps improve food satisfaction. It is the only IDDSI transitional food option that is evidence based and medically tailored to dysphagia.

The 5 benefits in dysphagia management:
1. Complements multiple texture levels including puree: dissolves from a regular to a puree in seconds.
2. Ease in swallowing: High dissolving food that breaks down quickly with low oral and pharyngeal residue after swallow.
3. Ease of management: effective tool to learn bolus control to efficient swallow.
4. Support for Oral Motor Skills: As an oral sensory stimulation tool, it helps individuals practice and improve skills from sensory awareness to oral motor movements to a coordinated swallow.
5. Facilitates transition to more complex textures: Supports a gradual progression and build tolerance to different food consistencies.

GI Function

Crispy Melts promote digestive health and contributes to satiety. Our ingredients may help with certain digestive disorders such as irritable bowel syndrome by enhancing gut health and promoting regular bowel movements. The rapid dissolve to puree may also be helpful to manage gastroparesis, a condition where the stomach empties its contents into the small intestine more slowly due to impaired motility.

Crispy Melts & GI Function

Crispy Melts are a high dissolving transitional food that breaks down quickly in the digestive system. The purpose can be to support: smaller, more frequent meals, gently challenge texture, reduce avoidance/fear around eating, and increase joy with eating opportunities. This may lead to a higher PO consumption and ultimately help in dietary advancement.
Our ingredients are carefully chosen to not have dairy or gluten.  Protein comes from peas. Inulin, a prebiotic from chicory root that also helps regulate blood sugar levels, and support gut health.

Malnutrition

There are multiple causes for malnutrition and is highly specific to the physical and mental condition, as well as environmental influences. In people managing dysphagia or on a dental soft diet, the risk is high for malnutrition.

Crispy Melts & Malnutrition

Unlike liquid supplements, Crispy Melts help to prevent or manage malnutrition in three novel ways:

1. Helps to progress a modified diet: Using our finger food as an oral sensory tool, patients can re-learn basic biting, chewing, tongue movement and repeat swallowing to help advance their diet level- even puree! Being on a higher textured diet reduces risks of malnutrition.

2. Unlike puddings and applesauce, Crispy Melts is a finger food that is easier to graze on independently. Having a new source for calories and protein will capture their interest and improve positive eating habits.

3. Unlike all other foods a person on a soft diet eats, Crispy Melts is not moist. The advantage this brings is that it encourages hydration and normalizes the habit of a snack and a drink.

Post Surgery

Whether it is bariatric surgery, craniofacial surgery or dental surgery, management of the diet post surgically is a challenge. Often placed on a soft diet for weeks to months, a patient begins craving texture and feels burdened with special food prep and nutritional intake requirements.

Crispy Melts & Surgery

Crispy Melts are a convenient snack that breaks the monotony of the soft diet yet fits most restrictions due to the rapid dissolve to puree.  It forms a cohesive bolus in the mouth and reduces oral residue around healing sites. No chewing is required but it satiates the craving for more oral sensation.
